A revival is a spiritual reawakening from slumber or stagnation or a state of dormancy to true spirituality, righteousness, and submission to the authority of Jesus Christ. God’s end-time agenda is threefold, the revival of individuals, the body of Christ/church and territorial or global revival.

Revival is intended for believers as non-believers need salvation. It is a restoration to life and God’s consciousness. The revival of an individual begins with true repentance; denouncing and desisting sin and returning to God. Ephesians 5:14-17 speaks of the awakening of the spirit to God’s will. When we are restored as individuals, our prayer life and hunger for the things of God is reignited and we increase in the knowledge of Him. We are in the “end times” and final dispensation before the day of the Lord occurs. In 1 Timothy 4:1, Paul warns of the last days and how some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits while 2 Timothy 3 provides details of specific pitfalls to look out for.

Our prayer today is focused on self-introspection, a deep review of the inner man and examining if we may have picked up on any of the attributes described in 2 Tim 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy”

The church is revived as the people are revived. As God brings individuals to a point of repentance and genuine brokenness, realigning us to His will and purpose, we become the salt and light of the earth. When individuals increase in passion for the things of God, the fire for Jesus is reborn, hence, the church as a corporate body is revived. In Ezekiel 37:1-14, God sends a Prophet to revive and restore the Israelites. “I will put my spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land.”

From the individual to the church to territories across nations, God has promised to show His greatness and holiness and to make Himself known to many nations (Ezekiel 38:23; Psalms 22:27). In Psalms 85:6-8, the Psalmist brings a patriotic petition before God for his afflicted country – a prayer of repentance and plea for revival, appealing to God’s mercy and track record and reminding Him that He has done this before. “Will you not revive us again?”

Joel 2:28 – a Prophecy of the last days. God promises to pour out His Spirit on all people.

Habakkuk 2:14, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea”.

Isaiah 11:9, “They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.”
