Wisdom can be seen as the correct application of knowledge in a timely manner, leading to the achievement of the right results. For a Christian, this applied knowledge must be based on God’s word and instructions (Matthew 7:24). Ultimately, the proof of wisdom is results (fruits).

Wisdom opens portals of joy, understanding, financial advantage, fulfilment, honour, good health, and life. Indeed, wisdom is to be desired more than anything in life. (Proverbs 3: 13 – 18; Ecclesiastes 10: 10). But do we sincerely desire wisdom? i.e. if God were to test us like he did King Solomon, will our response be similar? (2 Chron1:7-10)

Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do” (Proverb 4:7, NLT).

Divine direction is following God’s chosen pathway to arrive at a specific destination. Divine direction makes life worth living. It is being led by God to get to your desired place. Life can be joyful and worth living when divine direction is applied. To get to heaven, you also need divine direction from God. When you reject divine direction and live the way you want, you fail the way you don’t expect.

It can be burdensome for Christians to live by sight (guesswork, struggles and stress), rather than by faith in God’s guidance. In Psalm 32:8, God promised “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you” ( Psalm 32:8, NLT).  And when our faith appears to faulter, we can recall “The LORD will guide you continually, giving you water when you are dry and restoring your strength. You will be like a well-watered garden. Like an ever-flowing spring” (Isaiah 58:11, NLT)

Several delays we encounter in life are a direct result of taking the wrong turns and circling in indecision, and this can be prevented (ideally) or ended by adopting a teachable disposition towards God’s direction for our lives – “This is what the LORD says …I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is good for you and leads you along the paths you should follow” (Isaiah 48:17, NLT)

God’s Word (Wisdom) is a lamp to our feet and a light (direction) unto our paths.

Prayers

  • Thank God for directing us towards prayer and fasting during this season of our lives, and for sustaining us in the wisdom of the just.
  • To be led by God is a birthright for every child of God. Let us pray for the grace to draw on this right to enable us to please God continuously. (Romans 8:14; John 10: 3,4 & 27).
  • Pray for the grace to humble ourselves, acknowledging that we lack the capacity to direct ourselves (Jeremiah 10:23). God knows the end from the beginning.
  • Pray for a genuine hunger for divine wisdom, insight and grace to separate ourselves to discern answers to our requests. Ask for grace to plough deeper into knowledge (Prov 18:1)
  • Cry out for the strength and stability required to stay focused in a world distracted by lies, half-truths and appearances.
  • Father, forgive us for leaning on our understanding and placing our trust/reliance on man and the arm of flesh and for having our hearts turned away from you. Break the limits we’ve placed over our lives. (Jer 17: 5)
  • LORD, now we acknowledge You in all our ways, thoughts and plans, please direct and re-direct us unto the path of life. (Prov 3: 5-6)
  • Lord, as we prepare our hearts, give us hearts that hears (and recognises) the voice of the true Shepherd and respond promptly to Your leading (John 10:27, 16:13)
  • Cry out to God to go ahead and clear all obstacles (habit, attitude, alliances etc) to divine wisdom and direction. (Isaiah 45:2)
  • Ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to yield every day. Declare that whatever God leads us to start we shall complete (Joshua 1:8)
