Breakthroughs (by Lola Olorunniwo)

Micah 2 v 12 – 13 (NIV)- The One who breaks open the way will go up before them; they will break through the gate and go out. Their King will pass through before them, the Lord at their head.”
We all need to enjoy breakthroughs as children of God at every phase of our lives.
Why?

  • It is the will of God – Jere 29 v 11 (NIV)
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
  • God said in Gen 12 v 2 that he will bless Abraham and he will make him a blessing. So, if we are in Christ according to Gal 3 v 29 then we are Abraham seeds so whatever was the blessings the lord released on Abraham is ours too.
    What is it to Breakthrough?
According to the dictionary, it means Sudden advancement or discovery, A leap or step forward, an innovation, finding the right answer, a significant improvement, A new discovery that provides a lasting solution to a situation or problem, overcoming a restriction, a barrier or an obstruction etc.
As believers, to enjoy the fullness of all that pertain to life and godliness in Christ, to fulfil our God given purpose and destiny, there is need to breakthrough in every area of our lives.
There are many things we can do to breakthrough, below are few of what we can do:
  1. The need for the wisdom of God – Sometimes all that is needed is to apply the wisdom of God and our breakthrough will come.
The bible says in Ecc 10 v 10 that “Wisdom is profitable to direct”
For example: A change in career path might just be what is needed, going back to college for a degree, learning a new skill, updating an old skill, to read a book on managing your finance such as Budgeting to avoid overspending, starting a side hustle to add to your streams of income etc.
Also, it might just be change of Association and circle of friends that is needed to breakthrough to the next phase of life. Therefore, we need to ask God for Wisdom because wisdom is the right application of knowledge.

Hosea 4 v 6 (NIV) – My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

  1. Obedience – Isaiah 1 v 19 – 20
If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. “For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

Ability to hear instructions from the spirit of God and obey before making vital decisions or taking steps might just be the key you need to unlock your breakthroughs.
For Example: The spirit of God might be leading you to change your location or to leave your comfort zone etc. May God help us to Obey him absolutely in our faith journey.

  1. Prayer and Fasting – We might not be able to enjoy certain breakthroughs except we enforce them with intentional fasting and prayers.
Matt 17 v 21 (NKJV) – However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.”

Jesus said some challenges will not change, stubborn mountains will not move except we consecrate ourselves continually in fasting and prayers to enjoy unlimited breakthroughs.

  1. Align your desires to breakthrough to the will of God which is his word.
1 John 5 v 14 (NIV) – ‘This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us’
When we are in the will and purpose of God, to succeed becomes easy in life.
  2. Patience and Persistence in Faith – Heb 6 v 12 (ESV)
‘So that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
It took patience and unwavering faith and consistency for old patriarchs in the bible to overcome their challenges and later enjoyed lasting breakthroughs. This virtue is needed in the body of Christ while we wait on God for our breakthroughs.
  3. Seek God First – Above all, seeking God and his kingdom should be our topmost desire of our hearts as believers and as the scripture promised, everything needed to fulfil our destiny shall be added unto us.
Matt 6 V 33 (NIV) – “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
