It is no secret that we are living in an increasingly unsafe and dangerous world with the multiplication of human, natural and demonic threats to lives, destinies, purposes, and properties.

The increase or evil has resulted to an increased exposure to harm, danger, and even death. Uncountable lives, destinies, investments, and businesses have been lost sometimes needlessly and unexpectedly to accidents, natural disasters, robberies, fraud, terrorism, internal conflicts, wars, hate and gun crimes etc.

Last week listening to radio news, for two days consecutively, a number of violent deaths made the headlines. The list of missing persons is also on the rise.

On the Job front, while we are still recovering from Meta’s job retrenchment, Amazon and Microsoft have announced more job cuts. People who went to bed the night before employed and feeling financially secure, woke up the next morning jobless and in need of financial support.

Our health system is becoming overwhelmed and just a few days ago, it was admitted that some patients might have died because of the overstretched healthcare system in Ireland. I can’t help but think of this precious family from our congregation that had a life-threatening emergency but had to wait for over 4 hours for the medics, plus another 8 hours before a doctor could attend to them. Except for the prayers of the saints and God’s divine intervention, they would have added to that list of the dead.

The scripture says “Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain” (Psalm 127:1). We honour and value the services of our men and women in uniform who labour so hard to keep the peace, but they are never a substitute for God’s divine hand of protection. When you walk in divine protection, you have more than police guards, you have angelic guards. “For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;” (Ps 91:11).

It is good to be smart, intelligently aware, and precautious, but people still perish despite their smartness. There are things we evade, survive, overcome, and beat only by God’s divine hand of protection.

Divine protection is God’s way of shielding, defending, protecting, and keeping his own from evil, sickness, financial shortage, depression, worry, fear, stress, harm, or danger by a supernatural act. It is like the case of this little boy picked on CCTV who stood at a bus stop waiting for his bus home. He drifted aimlessly next a pool about five steps away from where he initially stood. Unknown to him, it was the five steps he needed to walk into safety from a high-speed vehicle that had lost control and driving into his location. He could barely react to the danger but the pool he just walked by, held the vehicle from crushing him. Had the boy waited 8 seconds more before drifting, he would have been crushed to death, how timely his escape. He could not explain why he had drifted. This was not simple coincidence; it was certainly the supernatural hand of God’s protection.

Walking in divine protection does not mean that you would be exempt from experiencing any form of trouble, but it means that if you stay in the place of God’s protection, when you do face these problems, God will bring you through victoriously.

  • Divine protection is our covenant blessing: As a born-again child of God, your new status in Christ places you under God’s protective covering. Psalm 18:30 says God is “a shield for all who take refuge in him“. Colossians 3:3 says in Christ, you are hid in God.
  • Divine protection is also a choice: You cannot claim and enjoy divine protection outside the divine presence. “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Ps 91:1,4). You have to determine daily to dwell in God’s presence and to abide under the shadow of His wings.
  • You enter your secret place of God’s protection by your declarations.: “I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.” (Psalm 91:2)
