CONTENDING AGAINST SPIRITUAL FORCES
- As Christian we are constantly engaged in spiritual battles where we contend against spiritual forces of darkness that want to subject us to woes, leaving us unfruitful, frustrated, defeated and unfulfilled. Spiritual warfare takes place in unseen supernatural dimension where God is all-powerful and Satan is in revolt. But the effects and outcomes of these spiritual battles are very visible and felt in the physical dimension in our everyday lives.
- Satan the adversary is real and spiritual conflicts are not simple illusions of our imaginations. In the word of God, spiritual warfare is mentioned most directly. In the New Testament in Ephesians 6:12 it says “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers of darkness of the world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Also in the Old Testament, the story of Daniel’s prayer being resisted by the prince of Persia is a typical example of spiritual warfare (Daniel 10:13). This is a salutary reminder to people in our Western context, who are inclined to ridicule the idea of a literal devil. The devil is a very real and powerful foe, far too powerful for us to take on in our own strength.
- The basic agenda of the enemy for engaging believers in spiritual battles is to, destroy God’s plan and purpose for our lives. He wants to stop us from being effective for God, from developing our faith to the full and from fulfilling our destiny in God. The enemy devices means of distracting our minds with lies and may even afflict with sickness, diseases and troubles of all kinds, resulting in unfruitfulness and cycles of limitations etc. in John 10:10 Jesus summarizes his agenda, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…”
- There are no doubts in my mind that the current trend of sweeping changes in our laws, streaming from the so-called new age ideologies, which has resulted to crises and confusion in families, marriages, and society at large, are of spiritual and demonic origin. Sharing the word of God freely in some public places is now facing serious resistance. There is an abandonment of truth, wholesome rejection of God and a falling away from faith. Addictions, pride, sexual immorality, jealousy, depression, anger etc. is of the increase. The great apostasy during the end of time as mentioned in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 is very real before our eyes today. The daily challenge to the word of God can not be over stressed. These are not natural phenomenon, they are spiritually engineered.
- Christ has made enough provisions for believers to triumph daily in these battles and live a victorious life in him. “He came to proclaim freedom to the prisoners and set the captive free” Luke 4:18
- Since our battle is not physical but spiritual, we cannot deploy physical weapons against a spiritual enemy. we are instructed to put on the whole armour of God. “Wherefore take unto you, the whole armour of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins get about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness, and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, where with ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all sins.” (Ephesians 6:12-18)
2 Cor. 10:4 says “for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.” With these armours fully deployed in prayer, we are guaranteed victory against all forms of spiritual attacks of the enemy in Jesus name.
PRAYER POINTS
“Ye are God’s small children and have triumphed over them: for greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.” JOHN 4;14
Thank God for arming you with the power to fight and for guaranteed victory in Christ in all battles. “Thou has given me the neck of all my adversaries so I may slaughter those who detest me.” PSALM 18;39-40
- Standing on God’s word, declare that every spiritual projection, curses and or divination against you and all that pertains to you and your loved ones, is made powerless by the blood of Jesus. “Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel…” (Num 23:23)
- Rebuke, bind and break the grip and hold of every spirit of affliction and torment from your life I Jesus name. “When the evening was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devil and he cast out the spirits with his words and healed all that were sick.” MATTHEW 8:16
- Pray and bind the strong man, spiritual forces of darkness seeking to exercises dominion and control over your house and family, and declare the end of their reign and dominion over your house in Jesus name. “For who is powerful enough to enter the house of a strong man and plunder his fools! Only someone even stronger who would tie him up and plunder his house!” MATTHEW 12;29.
- Pray that no weapon formed against you and your loved ones shall prosper. “No weapon that is formed against thou shall prosper and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgement thou shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of them Lord and their righteousness is of ….. the Lord.” ISAIAH 54:17
- Pray that every visible and invisible yoke of limitation in operation in your life and in the lives of your loves ones be broken in Jesus name. “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing”. (Isaia 10:27)
- Pray that every curse operational against your family, be broken by the blood of Jesus.
- Declare your prosperity and that of your household spiritually and physically in Jesus’ name. “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health just as you should prosper.” 3 JOHN 1;2
- Pray for the restoration of every lost blessing. “And I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten, the cankerworm, and the Caterpillar, and the Palmer worm, my great army which I sent among you” JOEL 2;25-27
- Declare your victory over every struggle, battle and crises by the blood of Jesus. “And they overcome him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony and they did not love their lives to the death.” REV 12;11
