Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you! Isaiah 64 v1.
What a wonderful prayer by the prophet Isaiah. He prayed this prayer and several centuries later his prayer was answered. I would say approximately 750 years, our Lord was born. This then started a chain of events that sees this prayer answered regularly. I know that many ascribe this prayer to what happened at Mount Sinai, when God came down to speak to the house of Jacob.
But I want to take you on an exploration of scriptures that talk about the answer to this prayer.
I will start with Ezekiel chapter one verse one,” In my thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day, while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens were opened and I saw visions of God”.
We can see that this prayer began to be answered. Every time God opens the heavens there is a change of activities, life would not be the same again as you will find out if you do a study of the book of Ezekiel. He saw the visions of God, not money, cars, houses and exquisite dresses.
As for me the biggest moment of the answer to this prayer is when the Lord of lords was born into the world. His enemy shock and trembled. Satan did not know how to contain the situation.
The nail in the coffin is the scriptures from Mathew 3v16, Mark 1 v10 and Luke 3 v21. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” (Mark 1v10-11; NIV). There is always something that is associated with the opening of the heavens. They don’t just open for the sake of it. The heavenly Father will always have something to show or say when the heavens open. Do you also realise that in all these incidences we are not told about the heavens closing up. It simply shows that they are still open to those who are well positioned, those who hunger and thirsty for God. Those who do four things; “… (1) shall humble themselves, and (2) pray, and (3) seek my face, and (4) turn from their wicked ways—“. God promises to do three things which are; then will I (1) hear from heaven, and will (2) forgive their sin, and will (3) heal their land.
Before I get carried away let me continue with the trail of the scriptures that talk about the open heavens. And he saith to him, Verily, verily, I say to you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man. John 1v51,. He was speaking to Nathaniel and he promises him an open heaven where he will see the fulfilment of the dream of Jacob at Bethel as he was fleeing his brother Esau in Genesis 28.
Stephen as he was being stoned he looks up to heaven and makes a declaration, Acts 7 verse 56; “And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. We continue to see that the heavens have been opened for us to enter and see God’s program so we can be like the sons of Issachar, who knew the time and what Israel ought to do, 1 Chronicles 12 verse 32; “And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do;
In Revelation chapter 4 verse 1 it says; “
After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”
So brethren the bible says in the testimony of two or three a matter shall be established. The fact that the heavens are open for us to peep in and see the program of our Father has been established by the many witnesses I have outlined here. Now it remains for us to enter into the Holy of holies to obtain mercy and forgiveness of our sins before Him who gave up His life for you and me. For the door is open, anyone who hungers, thirsty and desperately want can avail of such a great opportunity. Especially seeing where the world is heading we are better off knowing what our Father’s program is.
It takes those who are born again by the Spirit and washed by the precious blood of the Lamb. Those who hunger and thirsty for God, those who are patient for by patience they shall possess their souls. Those who are pure at heart for they shall see God. Those who shall endure to the end for they shall be saved.
Therefore brethren let’s take courage in the fact that if we are in Christ we are upon the ladder that connects the earth to heaven. There is direct communication between us and the Father Almighty. Moses said what nation has such a Great God who is so near to us that when we call He hears us?
Let us no slacken in our prayer life, for heaven is waiting for your prayer. Don’t forget that your prayer is the incense they are waiting for in heaven for their incense offering. Let us therefore brethren approach the throne of grace with boldness and confidence since our conscience are cleansed by His blood and a great door has been open through His flesh which was pieced.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him Hebrews 11 v6.
